Work It!

Two areas of my wardrobe are in a Just-Too-Sad state:  my sleepwear & my workout wear.  The first is sad--but not from a lack of trying.  Another post for another time.

The workout wear came to a head when I rejoined my Palates class here in UB.  What passed for doing my collections of DVDs at home just wasn't going to cut it in public.

So.  I download the Laura Lounge Trousers by Maria Denmark of Onion Patterns (my 2nd pattern from Onion--amazing) and stopped by my favorite fabric shop here in UB which I liken to Mood Fabrics in that it is floor-to-ceiling rolls of fabric.  But only 1 storey and 2 rooms and shoulder-to-shoulder.

I am SO behind on my pattern reviews and really owe Onion Patterns a huge round of applause.  Soon.  Promise.

Anyway, the results!  These were made in a great knit I found here in UB--not quite as stretchy as sweatshirt fleece, but still fleece-y and some stretch.  Great return.  I had enough of the gray to make another Magic Pencil Skirt and another workout top from the Kirsten Kimono Tee pattern.

Notice how I spared you a view of my belly :)  You're welcome
Here's another Kirsten Kimono Tee in another great knit found here in UB.  I had enough to bind the gray top--no picture :( and use for the band on these pants and the band on another pair of Lounge Trousers out of hot pink sweatshirt fleece--again, no pic.  So, I have been style'n at the gym.

And look!  I made a yoga-mat bag!  Too cute.

OK, now for a Personal Challenge.  Because of some lower back issues, I've crossed to the dark side of travel:  I am planning on wearing yoga pants on the 11-hour leg of my trip back to the US.  I know, I know, a bit obsessive.  I have friends who even take their bra off!  They will remain anonymous.  But this is huge for me.  I'm so not a wearing-yoga-pants in public person.  But that place where all our jeans have where the yoke meets the rest results in a knot that results in back ache for me.  Even in my favorite stretch jeans.  So.  I'm blessed enough to be flying business this time (using miles) on an Air Bus 380 with a--are you ready?  An entire upper deck for business class with it's own lounge and crazy big bathrooms!!!  So...I can change in the bathroom on the airplane!  Whew.
Here are my 3rd pair of Lounge Trousers this time in a stretch velour.  Alas, not cotton (guessing here, but they didn't shrink a bit in the prewash, so thinking not.).  The top in the picture is yet another Kirsten Kimono Tee--love these things!

So, tonight I begin my journey of 3 planes &amp 32 hours or so to get home.  Plus a 15-hour time difference.

To quote my oldest daughter Jana:  "airline passengers need to create their own happiness these days."  How true!  My Lounge Trousers are just the ticket :)

Made in Mongolia--Simplicity 6726

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Follow my blog with Bloglovin Let's give this blogging thing another go, shall we?   I recently listened to podcast #18 at   Clothes Making Mavens  featuring Barbara Imodi of Sewing on the Edge  that was SO encouraging.  So on we go with my pretty bad photos featuring real me and my real life. We're back in Mongolia for 90 days with Randy's work.  I've been tracking that over on  Instagram  and  Facebook .  Anyway, my official sewing enabler, husband Randy, made sure that I immediately acquired a second-hand machine and set up my Happy Place.  Our furnished apartment has one picture on the wall and dinnerware for 6, but I have a sewing machine!  I do have my priorities right. I have to say I've never been a Singer fan.  That said, this little guy has really, really surprised me.  There is a Singer store here in UB that is the only game in town.  I got this Singer 323...

Much Needed New Winter Robe - Vogue 9232

Last spring I chucked my 20-year-old bathrobe, giving me no choice but to replace it come winter.  Granted, I never took it to Mongolia, so it only got worn when I was home in the US.  But still.  For summer I made several light weight robes, but I knew I liked the style of my old RTW one.   When I saw reviews for Vogue 9232--on PR (all 3 of them), I knew I'd found my pattern.  Interestingly enough, the pattern is actually for a caftan-type dress; but all 3 reviews were done up as a robe.       Sham's review   in particular had great tips.   On a trip to Colorado Fabrics  in early summer I spotted a beeeuuutiful pink sweatshirt type fabric.  The outside is more like a thick knit and inside is dreamy soft.  And it's baby pink!  Which is hard to tell in the pics as we in Colorado have had lots of rain and no sunshine. And OK, I'm no photographer.  But seriously, this is like stepping into a pink cloud. ...

Travel Duds

As I've probably whined/stated before, the trip to and from Mongolia involves about 30 hours of travel spread over 3 flights, Incheon Airport, South Korea the long leg being 11-13 hours.   For almost 10 years I've resisted wearing anything closely resembling sweats.  I know, I know.  Call it an anti Ugly American thing.   About 5 years on, I had to ditch jeans with any kind of buttons on the back.  Finally, the knobby seam joint of the back yoke got to me.  Never mind having to unbutton midway through. Sigh.  I finally caved into wearing comfy pants (hereafter referred to as Happy Pants) on the long leg of my international flights last September.  These were made up in my favorite yoga pants pattern, Laura Lounge Trousers  (I'd made 3 pair for Pilates already :)  by Maria of Denmark (her Kimono Tee pattern is another one of my go to's!).  In purple stretch velour.  Still, I couldn't bring myself to hang out in the airpo...
