We were going to be there a week and I wanted a lightweight kimono-type pullover for the pool and getting out of the shower. I had snagged a gorgeous white linen/cotton (guessing on this) here in UB that was perfect. My inspiration came from Lisa's over at <a href="http://frame.bloglovin.com/?post=6499207513&blog=14719121&frame_type=blog_profile">Lisa's Carolina | Handmade</a>. I'm not good at pattern drafting and this was a quick FREE measure and cut tutorial of Stitch Sisters--find their Patternless Pattern Link <a href="http://frame.bloglovin.com/?post=6499207513&blog=14719121&frame_type=blog_profile">here</a>. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-azIFanyo_oA/W5TVi_Y3BvI/AAAAAAAAfAU/zp5sBzMj1O4OLMHMSA1PjUOWLpDZ6aLewCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_2afb.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-azIFanyo_oA/W5TVi_Y3BvI/AAAAAAAAfAU/zp5sBzMj1O4OLMHMSA1PjUOWLpDZ6aLewCLcBGAs/s640/fullsizeoutput_2afb.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm so happy with this! It basically took me an afternoon. The directions are great--and they include 5/8" seam allowances--yay!--as I wanted to turn under and top stitch them since I don't have a serger here. I left off the ties. Shapeless worked for this. I also raised the neckline by about 1.5"</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pVNxINZbcQ4/W5TVjnZWVaI/AAAAAAAAfAc/CKSEUnVCzIsAjWmMeWlLafzE_nPur2E1gCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_2b00.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pVNxINZbcQ4/W5TVjnZWVaI/AAAAAAAAfAc/CKSEUnVCzIsAjWmMeWlLafzE_nPur2E1gCLcBGAs/s640/fullsizeoutput_2b00.jpeg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The neckline was a little trickier as I didn't have any bias on hand and there is no "running out" anywhere here. So, I used the gorgeous selvage, complete with fringe. I sewed it on the wrong side, turned up and over to the right side and top stitched into place. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I used this after every shower (sometimes two a day) and at my daily treks to the pool after sightseeing in 111 F heat. Perfect. </span><br />

I recently listened to podcast #18 at <a href="http://www.clothesmakingmavens.com/episode-19-pick-a-challenge-or-a-sewalong/">Clothes Making Mavens</a> featuring Barbara Imodi of <a href="http://frame.bloglovin.com/?post=6493223023&blog=3883847&frame_type=blog_feed">Sewing on the Edge</a> that was SO encouraging. So on we go with my pretty bad photos featuring real me and my real life.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We're back in Mongolia for 90 days with Randy's work. I've been tracking that over on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ljmyer/?hl=en">Instagram</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/lgmyer">Facebook</a>. Anyway, my official sewing enabler, husband Randy, made sure that I immediately acquired a second-hand machine and set up my Happy Place. Our furnished apartment has one picture on the wall and dinnerware for 6, but I have a sewing machine! I do have my priorities right.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DX2-ONx7IGE/W4IjSdXM7NI/AAAAAAAAe6s/yhEcNcws1Q0hC4g_5CpzN2naB0tv2ojXACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_7450.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DX2-ONx7IGE/W4IjSdXM7NI/AAAAAAAAe6s/yhEcNcws1Q0hC4g_5CpzN2naB0tv2ojXACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_7450.JPG" width="300" /></span></a><span style="font-size: large;">I have to say I've never been a Singer fan. That said, this little guy has really, really surprised me. There is a Singer store here in UB that is the only game in town. I got this Singer 3232 for a song from a young woman who bought it this last March and used it once to sew pillows for her couch. It has very few bells and whistles, but my first project was mending jeans and it didn't miss a stitch. Since then it has sewn on cottons, home dec fabrics and knits beautifully. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I set up my Happy Place in the spare room which has a desk with a drawer and a chair. Perfect.</span><br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fya1E9mA6CE/W4Il7VLKYTI/AAAAAAAAe74/Gk_kLA8O35gxuKkAlmL9TaHEzf3wWAnnACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_2aa4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fya1E9mA6CE/W4Il7VLKYTI/AAAAAAAAe74/Gk_kLA8O35gxuKkAlmL9TaHEzf3wWAnnACLcBGAs/s640/fullsizeoutput_2aa4.jpeg" width="480" /></a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">My thread catcher. Too cute, right? I've never really thought of octopus as lovers, though. hmm</span><br />

Granted, I never took it to Mongolia, so it only got worn when I was home in the US. But still. For summer I made several light weight robes, but I knew I liked the style of my old RTW one. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When I saw reviews for Vogue 9232--on PR (all 3 of them), I knew I'd found my pattern. Interestingly enough, the pattern is actually for a caftan-type dress; but all 3 reviews were done up as a robe. <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/131451">Sham's review</a> in particular had great tips. </span></div>

The outside is more like a thick knit and inside is dreamy soft. And it's baby pink! Which is hard to tell in the pics as we in Colorado have had lots of rain and no sunshine. And OK, I'm no photographer. But </span><span style="font-size: large;">seriously, this is like stepping into a pink cloud. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I made a small through the neck, shoulders and sleeves and a med on the sides. Next time, a small all over. My changes: I added 2 inches to the sleeve length and narrowed them by 4". I took 2" off of the length--I am 5'3". The pattern called for a dinky zip and the reviews put in separating zips, but I wanted just a long zip as I don't mind climbing in and I don't want the breezes where the separating zip ends. I used a 24" robe zip from Joann's. I also omitted the facing to eliminate bulk--nothing scratchy on inside anyway. Plus, my old one didn't have facings either. </span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Fall has most definitely arrived in Colorado, ready or not. I'm sure the dazzling fall days with mild temps that I so love are just around the corner, but in the meantime summer was blown out to be </span><span style="font-size: large;">replaced by cold and rain.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n-vailPte0M/Wa85gJK8XTI/AAAAAAAAceY/BITjPsQ2vbIKTjdJyxuivRrnXSqxHiHQQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1007" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n-vailPte0M/Wa85gJK8XTI/AAAAAAAAceY/BITjPsQ2vbIKTjdJyxuivRrnXSqxHiHQQCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_5481.JPG" width="402" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">While I'm now sewing for fall (like in a hurry), here is my last make of summer: Butterick 6101 made up in a stretch linen which is almost too sheer for this pattern. But when it's hot, it works ;-) </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7duqGwMMJaU/WbFsPt-3txI/AAAAAAAAcfE/Sm1h0q-FG5QdQJhbPAEov4GFSJFCCwACgCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_24cf.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7duqGwMMJaU/WbFsPt-3txI/AAAAAAAAcfE/Sm1h0q-FG5QdQJhbPAEov4GFSJFCCwACgCLcBGAs/s320/fullsizeoutput_24cf.jpeg" width="240" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">I made this in a small, though I typically make a medium at least on the sides. The arm holes were not too low, but the neck was super wide--a design feature I think. I actually took it in with tucks a placed small pewter buttons over the tucks. Also, I didn't make the binding as wide as provided, rather doing my usual binding width. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The little artsy pockets grew on me. I think it's important that the fabric be fluid enough that these don't poke out weirdly.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And here's my little arsty fartsy touch :-) :</span></div>

After wearing sooo much black </span><span style="font-size: large;">for years, I can't get enough white. This shirt got tons of</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large; text-align: center;">wear this summer. The following goofy expressions of me trying very hard to play photographer are for free.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6GOnXSaU_GU/WbR4PhGAV3I/AAAAAAAAch0/Jg97tM423asyWX9ktE0dtvfJF1UcRuRiACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_24ea.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">McCalls 7387 in a light and airy cotton shirting. So light and airy </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hr9Z3ig9qkg/WbR4QG5hEVI/AAAAAAAAch4/nRTPAqYRalIxrvt1lcNKlwl7bPOPE5stACEwYBhgL/s1600/fullsizeoutput_24eb.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hr9Z3ig9qkg/WbR4QG5hEVI/AAAAAAAAch4/nRTPAqYRalIxrvt1lcNKlwl7bPOPE5stACEwYBhgL/s320/fullsizeoutput_24eb.jpeg" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have to wear a bit underneath which is not always the most light and airy thing to do. I made up a medium, which was roomy to a degree I'm fine with. However, next time I might make a small through neck and shoulders as collar seems a bit big. Also, the sleeve band was too wide I thought. I ended up folding it back. Again, fine. I liked the back detail, too; though a fabric with more body would probably stick out.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">In late spring I made yet another version of the Silhouette #600, The Classic Blouse, to take on a trip Randy & I made to San Antonio & Corpus Christi --SO sad at the epic flooding they're enduring :-(. </span></div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">A few weeks before my hand surgery a made a repeat of Butterick 5924 from a pink and white all-cotton shirting from Fabric Mart. I wanted a longer version to wear with stretch ankle pants, etc. I made a sleeveless version of this shirt a few years ago from a lovely periwinkle linen. I love that shirt. This one is OK and I'm sure I'll wear it a lot, but despite a pattern that includes cup sizes, I'm not super thrilled with the fit. --and the cotton was a bit challenging to work with; so surprising for 100% cotton. It's just not a soft cotton and I should have known, but I forged ahead.</span><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BhOPRh7ZHLQ/WZi_c3mbQwI/AAAAAAAAbsU/9AuxFXnVRx8FT74F8HCR-UCtQfHm9mG7ACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1489" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BhOPRh7ZHLQ/WZi_c3mbQwI/AAAAAAAAbsU/9AuxFXnVRx8FT74F8HCR-UCtQfHm9mG7ACKgBGAs/s640/IMG_5319.JPG" width="594" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: center;">I had my hand and elbow surgery last Friday and so far so good!! I mean, no more numbness and pain which is huge. However, I am still on restricted activity. My dear Randy has been my hero as usual.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">We took a road trip two days after the surgery to Utah where our daughter and family live. After all, I couldn't sew so might as well get out of the house, right? Once there, Randy was very helpful, working on electrical stuff, etc., on their new place. I had a grand time doing absolutely nothing but chatting up the grand kids (they taught me all kinds of tech stuff) and taking them to the pool and things like that. </span><br />

consuming year in which I did lots of therapy sewing while totally enjoying reading other sewing <br /><br />bloggers. ...but now I'm ready to jump back in.</span><span style="font-size: large;"><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">...and! I'm planning on opening a small-scale sewing school--too excited for words about that. So, the blog design will probably get a redesign and I'm working on a logo, etc. I also realize I'm not a great photographer. I decided that none of that is going to hold me back; I'm just going to jump in. <br /><br />However.<br /><br />I had carpel tunnel and ulnar nerve surgery on my right hand/elbow. Today. Sigh. Sidelined for a bit. At least the productivity--but not the planning. Here I am pecking away at the blog, surprising even myself. Amazing at what I can do with left hand only. <br /><br />I suggested having this done in Bangkok and convalescing at the Movenpick on Puckett Island. Randy wasn't keen on that. Sigh.<br /><br />My latest make is M7516, a badly needed new robe. The two shamefully old ones went away in a charity bag, forcing me into action. The pattern envelope is MIA at the moment. <span style="font-size: large;">I wanted a few new things so I drove over to Colorado Fabrics and picked up some rayon knits--all the flat folds were 50% off. This happens twice a year and is a major score. Worth the drive.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I made up all 3 in Maria of Denmark's Kimono T. This is my all-time favorite go-to T. Perfect with my Magic Pencil skirts in stretch denim and twill.</span><br />

I had a cutting-out marathon last Sunday so was fun to sit down and just sew the rest of the week. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">First out was this whacky number that I plan to sleep in with a pair of Jailie pj shorts I made to go with a sister top from the same pattern that I made last year in an equally crazy print that I feel ridiculous wearing out. But it's been great to sleep in on hot nights! </span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Hey look how that big motif ended up in a perfect spot top center front. Total accident, there!</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cAfQ1Ju52Uw/V4wXRdg0u2I/AAAAAAAAXHA/kAAYk4SrAIMedNjHZMqhkdjNxfxf79O9wCKgB/s1600/IMG_3490.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cAfQ1Ju52Uw/V4wXRdg0u2I/AAAAAAAAXHA/kAAYk4SrAIMedNjHZMqhkdjNxfxf79O9wCKgB/s400/IMG_3490.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This was made from a cotton voile from Butterick 6215. Last make for it I think. The pockets are cute but take longer than the whole rest of the shirt. I slit the sleeves just because.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Also, I started sewing in the mornings instead of waiting until afternoons after </span><i style="font-size: x-large;">everything </i><span style="font-size: large;">else is done. There is just something about afternoons--they tend to unravel. And change with every phone call. And I get tired and hot. Then there is my new little sewing buddy, Sarah,</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">who I never know exactly <u>when</u> in the afternoon she will show up.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, mornings have been magic. Just birdsong and my machines. The hard part was giving myself permission!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Second up: yet another Silhouette Classic Blouse #600 this time in another piece of my precious linen from Hong Kong. This time I didn't take the front vertical darts and I added 2" in length and added side slits. Long and loose for upcoming trip to watch the Honolulu Munchkins while their parents escape to another island for their anniversary. Hardship, I know ;-)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">Look at these buttons! Aren't they the cutest?! I got them several years ago in a hole-in-the-wall store in UB and have been saving them for just such a shirt. Done. Aside: why are buttons so expensive here?? In Mongolia I paid pennys for them. They all come from China, right? Granted they were in bins and not packaged and hanging on hooks...hmm.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What to do with 2ish yards of silk? Make a kimono! ...and I was so attracted to Simplicity 1381 out of all the kimono patterns available. View C, the one being modeled, in particular. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iZB6pjLmCf4/VvahiWrlTzI/AAAAAAAAWnQ/loermlFnaskQkXrVQuNvi1EwgJfS43tpACKgB/s1600/IMG_2980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iZB6pjLmCf4/VvahiWrlTzI/AAAAAAAAWnQ/loermlFnaskQkXrVQuNvi1EwgJfS43tpACKgB/s400/IMG_2980.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The silk was purchased during a trip to Hong Kong --at the Western Market (insert long sigh of fond longing) and was gorgeous to work with. I did have to purchase more silk here for the bands as I was short</span>. </div>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pJLR3iSZ7YA/VvahiVqnZKI/AAAAAAAAWmg/lflwvuVqZYoNLJrhnJ8Cqv27V4FHdamJA/s1600/IMG_2978.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pJLR3iSZ7YA/VvahiVqnZKI/AAAAAAAAWmg/lflwvuVqZYoNLJrhnJ8Cqv27V4FHdamJA/s640/IMG_2978.JPG" width="480" /></a><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I flat felled the seams and turned and hand stitched the collar and wrist bands, which I regretted. Big pain. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RrLNS2kN9Gs/VvahiUXFJ9I/AAAAAAAAWmY/RnV82r2e-bYQi5ejt_zoXTJ5nt0Y9X-FQ/s1600/IMG_2979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RrLNS2kN9Gs/VvahiUXFJ9I/AAAAAAAAWmY/RnV82r2e-bYQi5ejt_zoXTJ5nt0Y9X-FQ/s640/IMG_2979.JPG" width="480" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I really like this make and it feels so luxurious to wear. The drape is really nice and I like the length, too--for either pants or skirts/dresses.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q9GMiFcsDIs/V3hW9-8rKFI/AAAAAAAAW8o/C4XcMUd8I6EHn24G9ECvpXAD06-yo55oACKgB/s1600/IMG_3313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q9GMiFcsDIs/V3hW9-8rKFI/AAAAAAAAW8o/C4XcMUd8I6EHn24G9ECvpXAD06-yo55oACKgB/s640/IMG_3313.jpg" width="322" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RBejnVzN2aA/V3hW9_SWZ2I/AAAAAAAAW8o/YKr7tmv4rGcbAMllTDR026PRf1b7VYj3wCKgB/s1600/IMG_3314.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RBejnVzN2aA/V3hW9_SWZ2I/AAAAAAAAW8o/YKr7tmv4rGcbAMllTDR026PRf1b7VYj3wCKgB/s640/IMG_3314.jpg" width="390" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I liked it so much I made another out of cotton gauze from Joannes, using leftover embroidered cotton batiste, also from Joannes. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">umm...not sure I like it. I have yet to wear it out even though I've put it on several times to do so. I thought it would be a great light-weight shrug-ish thing to wear in aid conditioning, etc. I guess it feels a bit like a lab coat. Maybe it will grow on me.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This time I stitched and then serged the bands on. Much faster.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH-YsOiuRF8/V3haBt0tNcI/AAAAAAAAXAI/H5Li8Ks8M-civVpwO66cMIfSdeOVH1SxACKgB/s1600/IMG_3369.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH-YsOiuRF8/V3haBt0tNcI/AAAAAAAAXAI/H5Li8Ks8M-civVpwO66cMIfSdeOVH1SxACKgB/s640/IMG_3369.jpg" width="480" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, end of story: I love Kimono #1 and I do like the pattern and might make a travel robe from it in the future.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In my long blogging absence I have actually been doing a lot of sewing and just general living. While still pursuing the Perfect Pant (and making progress!), I have veered off that road into Shirt Land. After watching countless YouTubes done by Peggy Sagers of Silhouette Patterns, I finally ordered up her <a href="http://www.silhouettepatterns.com/html/patterns/p_600.htm">#600, The Classic Blouse</a>. After sewing 40+ years, I have to say I've picked up many new ways of sewing--and thinking about sewing & fashion from Peggy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EMdVh8djWRE/V3haBllueaI/AAAAAAAAXAI/24gSMYGQqUk6sWc3jK1NrKo-YaXZtB1zACKgB/s1600/IMG_3465.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EMdVh8djWRE/V3haBllueaI/AAAAAAAAXAI/24gSMYGQqUk6sWc3jK1NrKo-YaXZtB1zACKgB/s320/IMG_3465.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyhoo...the pattern is amazing!!!! Silhouette patterns come in cup sizes and while the C cup fits me perfectly right out of the envelope! I tweaked the armhole for sleeveless and the coverage I like there but other than that: perfection. Love the collar/facing methods. Love the length and gentle shirt tail hem. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I've been so excited I've made 4! Skirts (Magic Pencil of course), tops and sandals are my uniform for summer so all are sleeveless so far and I just throw on a gauzy shrug or sweater when need to cover those arms ;-) Here they are in reverse order, sort of. <span style="font-size: large;">That's a quote from Adriene Mishler from <i>Yoga with Adriene</i>. Not sure if that's original with Adriene, but I love, love her yoga on YouTube and I love that quote. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Well...this <u>is</u> a journey. Of making my own pants. I do have two pair of wearable pants to show for recent effort. Mostly for wearing around the house I think.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">First, Burda 5/2013 117A I made up in a very soft cotton pin wale corduroy. I've made this up twice before in linen. I think the corduroy is just not the right fabric. But soft and comfy. Not bad.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SZw2lujdz_8/VrPrPASzy0I/AAAAAAAAWOE/do8_u-BWs5Y/s1600/Burda%2BStyle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SZw2lujdz_8/VrPrPASzy0I/AAAAAAAAWOE/do8_u-BWs5Y/s640/Burda%2BStyle.jpg" width="324" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I made up another Style Arc Barb Pant in Ponte Rome. Hmm. Not the fit/look I was aiming for and the ponte stretches out. But again, they're soft and comfy and will get some wear on stay-at-home days. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">No pride, right? </span><span style="font-size: large;">I think the flat bum needs to be addressed horizontally through the hip instead of shaving the upper inner back leg. I plan to give that a try with this pattern in a stretch woven. You know, finding the right fabric is key I think. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">McCalls 7290</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm not sure about this one. The fabric is an oh-so-soft rayon/spandex knit from Joann's. And oh-so-stretchy. We'll see how much it gets worn. Looks a bit like a lab coat. Hmm. But it's so soft!</span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">On to pants. </span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I am determined to get a decent pair of wovens with a contour waistband this year. I no longer want to spend big money on pants that really don't fit so hot. I just spent untold </span><span style="font-size: large;">time o</span><span style="font-size: large;">n McCalls 6361, a Palmer Pletsch offering. I even have their Craftsy class. I've had great success with other PP tissue fitting projects, but I guess I'm a bit dense because tissue fitting pants was nuts. I'm going to skip the trauma and just state that the whole mess, including the muslin, ended up in the bin. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I've actually had reasonable success with pants in the past few years. I've made Burda 5/2013 117A up twice in linen and that I love and have worn tons in the last 2 summers. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, today I cut another pair in lovely </span><span style="font-size: large;">light gray</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">baby corduroy that is super soft to touch and drape. From a clearance at Hobby Lobby.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I also cut my 4th pair of Style Arc Barb Pants. This is a winner pattern that, like the Burda, has required minimal flat butt adjustments. I wear the past makes all the time. That said, I'm still trying to get just the right fabric. Stretch woven is good. Anything with 2-way stretch does just that: stretches both ways. A lot. I did read about high end RTW using clear elastic in the crotch seam. Note to self. I wonder how twill tape would work? Anyway, I just picked up some navy Ponte Roma from Joannes to see how a one-way stretch will do. I'm thinking this is the best of both worlds. I really want to add navy to my wardrobe. It will be a nice addition to all my black and gray as neutrals. Keep me from looking like crow. This ponte has a beautiful hand unlike Joanne's usual fare. We shall see.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">On to Sandra Betzina's method. I have her Craftsy class and I have the pattern that goes with it: Vogue 2984, a Today's Fit pattern. I've had Sandra's books, "More Fabric Savvy," "Power Sewing" and "Fast Fit" for a long time and use them constantly. So, I don't know what's taken me so long to focus on her method.</span><br />

I'm really pleased to see this as I had just planned to do this on my own and had even downloaded the worksheets in late December. You can find more info on <a href="https://blog.colettehq.com/">Collette's blog</a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I have to say that I have been reaping the rewards of narrowing my color palette the last few years. Now everything seems to go together color-wise. It's a little trickier with shapes, lengths, etc.; so am hoping to work on that with the Wardrobe Architect info.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">All that said, last week I finished up Vogue 8793 in gray & pink. This is my 3rd make of this pattern though I don't get as wild and crazy mixing prints as the pattern suggests :-) The fabric is a super soft cotton jersey from JoAnn's. You know, I've had great luck with their line of sew classic cotton knits. They're great to sew and wear really well</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Then, I put together covers for two naked Euro pillow forms that were laying around. We really needed some extra reading pillows (though Randy totally rolled his eyes at more bed pillows--but he uses it every night to read with, ha ha). I checked around about buying some and covers for this size pillow are just stupid expensive. The fabric is a lovely tapestry from Hobby Lobby and I used a couple of invisible zips I had on hand on the backs. </span><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I made coasters with the leftovers. To replace the annoying wooden rounds we are currently using in the living room--so easy for stuff to fall right off them!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The wrong side was pretty, too, so I made them reversable!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm working on a vest (!) right now that is a bit fiddly. Hopefully it will be a success story for next week.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Happy Sewing!</span></div>

Since my backside seems to have migrated around to my front and I am still working on that perfect pair of pants for a flat behind, I figure the fastest fix for that is just to cover it. With vests.</span><br />

Frankly, it's a blur. Short story: my sister was ill and I was blessed to see to her and her care before she passed away in October. My husband repatriated back to US in August after 11 years in Asia. There was not an ounce of time, energy or brain activity to spare </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> for blogging. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I sure didn't do last year perfectly. I did, however, do it with lots of love. Lot's of God's grace applied. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now it's a new year! God was/is SO good during all the extreme challenges of last year, that I am nothing but joyful and thankful and hopeful for whatever this year brings! Because He lives, I have no fear.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5QVDKpKw_vU/VoxilmPx3JI/AAAAAAAAWAg/9LIKiwfseWY/s1600/DSC00147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5QVDKpKw_vU/VoxilmPx3JI/AAAAAAAAWAg/9LIKiwfseWY/s400/DSC00147.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">So! Moving on! I want to blog! For so many reasons; but I think most of them creative. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">Not so much travel right now--no international flights for over a year. Yikes. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">But lots of sewing. Sewing for love. Sewing for joy. Sewing for sanity, at times.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">So, here we go! I want to start with my updated sewing space! I'm still in the loft and my former space was great, but Randy insisted that I needed more storage. What sewer doesn't??? What a guy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">We found these amazing solid-wood desks at Goodwill--$55 for both pieces. Tons of storage.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vHYGarcoJns/VoxjT1uCeII/AAAAAAAAWAs/IM_bLHkkTKY/s1600/DSC00148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vHYGarcoJns/VoxjT1uCeII/AAAAAAAAWAs/IM_bLHkkTKY/s640/DSC00148.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">The antique dresser was a $25 Goodwill find as many years ago. Cream paint and contact paper. Randy refinished it and it served as kitchen storage in an open pantry. Then it lived in a guest room holding extra bedding. Now it is re-purposed as sewing storage and cutting table and gift wrapping station. Perfect height.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">And my lights! A hand-crafted birthday gift from Randy. He's quite taken with all things Steam Punk these days. It appeals to the technical side of him. He spray painted, assembled and everything. </span><br />

For years that's what our family has called around-the-house pants that are soft and have some sort of elastic waist. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now to date, my husband has been very happy to see his gym clothes do double duty. Then one day he pulled out a particularly obnoxious pair of black & red flannel Happy Pants from his suitcase. And asked me to hem them up. If I'm going to hem ugly Happy Pants I might as well make them, you know?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I brought this fun flannel back from the States and intended on using Vogue 7079 that I've had for a very long time. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LP18p31qk0Q/VHmdjUhW32I/AAAAAAAASds/DjwD0Wytu1M/s1600/DSC00014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LP18p31qk0Q/VHmdjUhW32I/AAAAAAAASds/DjwD0Wytu1M/s1600/DSC00014.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">However, the pattern was a one-piece job and looked like a wagon sheet. Lots of potential fitting issues. For Happy Pants--really?? Since I've had great fit with Burda Style pants for myself, I checked out <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/mens-pajama-set-122010">Burda Style's Men's Pajama Set 12/2010 #145</a> . It got good reviews on PR. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">When made up, they indeed had the crotch shape and rise that my husband is so picky about (hates his pants to come all the way up to his natural waist). </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These are a winner! </span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1lfEgTTdY9k/VHP2HeCvHkI/AAAAAAAASc8/WRgBOJttZZ0/s1600/IMG_1434.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1lfEgTTdY9k/VHP2HeCvHkI/AAAAAAAASc8/WRgBOJttZZ0/s1600/IMG_1434.jpg" height="640" width="388" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Sneak shot, he he ;)</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span><span style="font-size: large;">I allowed 1" side seams, and ended up </span><span style="font-size: large;">letting them out, so a good thing. This tells me he is not a fan of "European fit." (as if!) And I took 2 1/2" off the length. In this pic, the hems are rolled up, so may need to take up more after next washing/drying.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I'm really looking forward to making him lots more with all the fun flannels out there!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I made 2 pair of happy pants for myself (of course ;) I used the silver stretch velour for the </span><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/mariadenmark/302/302.jpg">Laura Lounge Trousers my Maria of Denmark</a> </span><span style="font-size: large;">and the ponte for another pair of </span><a href="http://www.stylearc.com.au/stylearc/images/2013/BARBS-PANT.jpg"><span style="font-size: large;">Style Arc Barb Pants</span></a><span style="font-size: large;"> . Love, love, both these patterns and have made both countless times. Great fit and a fun sew.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V5R9QaV4qkI/VHU--lp9X6I/AAAAAAAASdY/rW2_X8BrCdg/s1600/DSC00006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V5R9QaV4qkI/VHU--lp9X6I/AAAAAAAASdY/rW2_X8BrCdg/s1600/DSC00006.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So, lots of happiness all around.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Which should be what sewing is all about, right?</span></div>

No need to go into details other than all the distractions have been good ones. :)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Yesterday I went along with some 20 fellow members of the International Women's Assn. of Mongolia to a <i><b><u>behind-the-scenes tour</u></b></i> of Gobi Cashmere!!</span><br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JlLfYv9F4yI/VF16lhb9jPI/AAAAAAAASZM/3nHcA7LKXho/s1600/IMG_1377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JlLfYv9F4yI/VF16lhb9jPI/AAAAAAAASZM/3nHcA7LKXho/s1600/IMG_1377.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Yikes</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">I love, love cashmere. Soft, light, warm, timeless. Gorgeous and practical. What's not to love? </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But after 10+ years of "collecting" ;) Gobi cashmere, I had never been to <i>that</i> building. Where it's actually made. Until yesterday.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The tour was <b>CRAZY COOL</b>. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The place was massive and busy as a beehive.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My silly pictures don't do it justice. ...and speaking of pictures...If I had any doubt that phone pics are NOT as good as my old Sony point & shoot camera, I doubt no more. (OK, I have a iPhone 4S and we were a group of 20 being herded along pretty fast) Still, I'm so glad I replaced my camera on the way back to Mongolia. However, I forgot to take it along on the tour. Grr.</span><br />

Well, I have cranked out some T-shirts and a few Magic Pencil Skirts that I didn't blog about. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, before cutting into any of the gorgeous linen I brought back from Hong Kong, I want to give myself the best chance for a successful garment as possible. Of course, the patterns that I was itching to use were all on the other side of the world.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I defaulted to my short stack of Burda Style magazines I have here in UB and downloaded a few patterns, too. I have to say, the Burda Style pants I started with fit pretty darn good with the first muslin! So, I made them up in the light gray bottom weight linen. Very soft.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And! I learned how to make a flat seat adjustment! About time. This opens up a whole new world of pant options. This in addition to my existing plan of simply covering my behind with longer shirts. While on the subject of pants, I have decided that I am ready for more elastic. And why not? It's not like I would be caught dead tucking my shirt in anyway. I'm finding that my lifelong love affair with jeans, is, well, fading. Not the look I'm going for and not so comfortable. Whew. Feels good to get it out.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, Burda Style 5/2013 117 A was a great place to start. In linen.</span><br />

The most memorable one (I think) being on <a href="http://www.afashionablestitch.com/2012/sewing/a-serious-opinion-about-pdf-sewing-patterns/">A Fashionable Stitch</a> a few years ago. Sunni really nailed it! That post obviously hit a chord </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vtiw_F9GDDE/U-iVhkHXw4I/AAAAAAAAR68/pPpdPXE-J7I/s1600/IMG_1018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vtiw_F9GDDE/U-iVhkHXw4I/AAAAAAAAR68/pPpdPXE-J7I/s1600/IMG_1018.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">with sewers as she got <u>139 comments</u>--equally entertaining. Some fer, some agin PDFs. So, I'm not going to go on a rant as its all been said before.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">That said, when in Mongolia, I do PDFs. I prefer paper patterns, but I can only cram so many into my luggage when boots, toiletries, vitamins, blah, blah, blah need to be packed--stuff I can't get here. Then creativity hits and the perfect pattern is on the other side of the world.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I did haul over a year's worth of Burda Magazines last year and even though I whined through the tracing process, I have to say, everything I've made from them have FIT with little more than some of my basic adjustments. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So I've recently downloaded 4 new patterns. One McCalls, one Butterick, and two Burda. Simplicity I just gave up on as the site just fought me and they never bothered to respond to an email to customer service. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Both the McCalls and Butterick require downloading a special Adobe-esque program in order to print. Oh, plus a special password is emailed to you in order to access the <i>patterns you just paid twice as much as the sale price of the paper ones.</i> Security don't you know. Plus, they won't allow printing the paper layout schematic (what else can I call it?). Really, people??? Plus, I swear I read on one or both of them that I could only print them 3 times within one year. ???? !!!!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now, the Burda ones were instantly mine. Boom. Opened right up in Adobe, ready to print and to save. The no seam allowance thing just is not that big of an issue with me as I usually add on to side seams as insurance anyway. <span id="goog_920740364"></span><span id="goog_920740365"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And the Burdas seem soooo much simpler in every way. As much as I don't enjoy the process, I have to admit it's getting faster with every one. The right equipment, as in anything, helps lots. </span><br />

I went planning to buy fabric. Linen to be exact as I'm just crazy about the stuff these days. I had a certain dollar amount in mind, even. Well, let's just say things got a little out of control.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Meet Rowena. Excellent English. Extremely knowledgeable. Very on top of her inventory. The little vixen. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DYBhiUqYsaE/U9TQvwpLYlI/AAAAAAAAR5Q/8oSOy25QP1w/s1600/IMG_0991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DYBhiUqYsaE/U9TQvwpLYlI/AAAAAAAAR5Q/8oSOy25QP1w/s1600/IMG_0991.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
I spent a ridiculous amount of money. Trust me. <i><u><b>Ridiculous</b></u></i>. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Fast forward to lunch and I am filled with remorse and contemplating putting a chop stick in my eye. What was I thinking???</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">You know what this 1-in-a-million husband of mine says? "let it go. You'll get 2 years of enjoyment out of this stack: petting it, pouring through patterns and blogs, planning, actual sewing. Then you get to wear it. And blog about it." </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />He's a keeper.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's my haul:</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Linen, of course :)</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Bottom weight & light weight & coordinating print. All pre-washed and dried 3 times per blog advice</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Cottons & 2 pieces of silk organza:</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The one on the very bottom is gorgeous cotton sateen</span></td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Look at this one! Isn't it fun? I'm thinking a vest and some sort of insert to pieces down the road.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This one is a stretch cotton silk with a border repeat. Gorgeous feel and drape.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0mp2KR4R57w/U9TPJkgrtVI/AAAAAAAAR4k/TPy2zo7i7es/s1600/DSC01672.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0mp2KR4R57w/U9TPJkgrtVI/AAAAAAAAR4k/TPy2zo7i7es/s1600/DSC01672.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My husband even ended up stuffing most of this in his carry on. Back home in UB, he asks me where I want the Unborn Clothing put. :D Seriously, though, I think I'll get about 12 pieces from this haul!</span>

Lots of travel; much of it quick trips within the US seeing family. Still, getting ready for a trip, being on the trip, recovering from the trip and then regrouping and planning for the next one is very consuming! It is for me, anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">...but hey, I'm back and have a recent trip to share!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Due to recent Major Drama at my husband's company here in Mongolia, he was in real need of a vacation. Mongolia has a week-long summer festival (we checked this off our life list long ago ;), so we took advantage of the extra days off and decided on another </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MpM-fzZy4vI/U8uFYE7RdYI/AAAAAAAARsM/JG0KtFGBZwA/s1600/DSC01667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MpM-fzZy4vI/U8uFYE7RdYI/AAAAAAAARsM/JG0KtFGBZwA/s1600/DSC01667.JPG" height="315" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">trip to Hong Kong as it's a mere 4-hour <i>direct</i> flight AND it's in the same time zone!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Hong Kong was hot and steamy and we left to return to UB with Typhoon Rammasun hammering southern China and the Philippines and causing crazy winds and rain in Hong Kong. Still, we had a <u>great</u> time.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Warning: this is a picture-heavy blog! I'm anxious to get on to some sewing posts :D</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We took a day trip on a Chinese junk to Stanley Beach. So fun!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Every day on our way to and from sightseeing, we walked through a gorgeous park next to our hotel and fell in love with the flamingos! SO FUNNY! They're very social--and noisy! and active--pics just don't do them justice. Bath day was a real hoot.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GPiJlRXSuls/U8uFB1JOibI/AAAAAAAARqk/LF9byiBu1lo/s1600/DSC01538.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GPiJlRXSuls/U8uFB1JOibI/AAAAAAAARqk/LF9byiBu1lo/s1600/DSC01538.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Then there were a bunch of turtles that captured Randy's heart ;) He took this pic of one "frolicking". He talked of making a vedeo. Enough said.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aIHR0jKixpc/U8uFPhcpNAI/AAAAAAAARrk/sFx_-YnydVs/s1600/DSC01567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aIHR0jKixpc/U8uFPhcpNAI/AAAAAAAARrk/sFx_-YnydVs/s1600/DSC01567.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The shopping! The city is dominated by consumerism. Shopping tourism (primarily Chinese mainlanders) is huge--cruise ships pull up to the malls. No lie.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JDq7N_p-Xp0/U8uFZ_0HmFI/AAAAAAAARsc/X0LpuPPfuwg/s1600/IMG_0949.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JDq7N_p-Xp0/U8uFZ_0HmFI/AAAAAAAARsc/X0LpuPPfuwg/s1600/IMG_0949.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Forget Prada and Louis Vitton. We tracked down printer cartridges (unavailable in UB, grr) at this 3-story electronics place in Mon Kok. Score. The place went on forever.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Then, there was my fabric shopping. That little linen thing. Stay tuned.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
